Shashi Tharoor, I love you
Not often does a man with a good command over the English Language find himself the favourite whipping boy of the media. It is common unsaid knowledge as to which news channel supports which political party in India , but the height of their loyalties is now gauged at they way in which none of them have actually lauded Mr.Tharoor as the voice of a Congress emerging out of the clutches of the "Gandhi" Brand.I think i can safely say that none of the news editors possess the depth of reading that Mr.Tharoor does nor do they profess the quality of Mr.Tharoor's English speaking and writing ability.
To me it is evident that over the many years of Congress rule in India or many of it's states one of it's strategies for survival is to slowly but surely push eminent leaders of India associated with the freedom movement or other turning points in our Independent history into a fading oblivion while promoting it's own Brand Ambassadors by naming every project, flyover or pro-poor policy in India after them.
None of Mr.Tharoor's statements, be it the tweet on travelling cattle-class or be it his observations on Visa rules, seem to be illogical to me. He was merely being honest about the government's knee jerk reactions in austerity drives and the impact one Mr.Headley could make just because he travelled freely around India. Just shifting a MPs class of travel from First Class to Economy is not a minimization of wasteful expenditure and imposing Visa restrictions isn't going to prevent the terror networks from their attempts to sabotage our peaceful society. What is needed to thwart terror is better trained and better equipped security agencies who can take pride in the work they do and get paid well for it, not travel agents telling their tourists to return home in 180 days and come back two months later.
It will be sad to see the party high command admonish Mr.Tharoor about his latest comment , then there will be no difference between the Congress and BJP who expelled Mr.Jaswant Singh, who paid the price for commenting about a man who paid the price for opposing a certain person Mr.Tharoor has just commented upon. For now, the media is earning it's bread and butter ,thanks to you.But by breakfast tomorrow they would have found another cash cow.I for one , love you Mr.Shashi Tharoor. Bash on regardless!
